Why Choose GRM

GRM was established in New York City in 1987. At the time, Document Storage was being offered almost exclusively by large, overbooked companies that had no resources to provide necessary attention to their customers.

We wanted to provide Information Management that could be custom-tailored to serve clients of any size. Word of our highly-personalized and hands-on practices spread quickly. Soon prominent law firms, accounting firms, financial institutions, entertainment companies, insurance companies, and non-profit organizations signed on as clients.

By 1990, after only three years in business, our client roster had grown steadily. GRM now offers a complete menu of information management services including document storage, imaging, shredding services, and tape storage. GRM clients choose from a variety of customized, corrugated storage containers and durable, customized transfer cases to protect and preserve their important documents and business data.

On Disaster Recovery Plans

I've mentioned disaster recovery plans on the Document Storage Blog a handful of times, but today I'd like to examine the issue in a little more depth. In the past, I've used examples like 9-11 or the flooding in New Orleans to highlight what sort of disasters can potentially effect your day to day business dealings. What you may not have considered, is that a "disaster" doesn't have to be such a large scale, high profile event to cause your company problems.

For instance, we recently created a disaster recovery plan for a Manhattan law firm who recently lost everything on their server. How did the damage occur? Their water cooler was being stored in the same room as the server and a worker from the water-supplier accidentally spilled some when re-filling the cooler.

Another recent client had their server stored in a room next to the lunch room. The microwave over-heated and caught on fire, and the temperature rise next door destroyed data on their server.

Both of these instances can be considered disasters, even though they only affected a single company. That being said, can your business afford to not have a disaster recovery plan. GRM offers plans that are more affordable than ever - providing a number of optional services that can ensure your crucial data stays protected without breaking your bank. For more information on our disaster recovery plans and all the other services provided by GRM, be sure to have a look at our website.

House Passes Electronic Records Bill

The ARMA International website has a brief mention and link regarding the US House of Representatives recently passing new legislation which will expand the National Archives and Records Administrations powers. Under this legislation, it becomes increasingly more important for businesses to utilize document management services to guarantee all of their electronic data is stored, filed and protected efficiently and up to Federal Standards. To learn more about the legislation you can read the article on ARMA's website (see link above) or go directly to the FCW website.

UK Urges Document Management as way to Go Green

I just finished reading a great article in Real FD, a British magazine geared towards financial decision makers in the UK. The article discusses at length Government and private companies desire to shift to greener operations, and how document management services is the ideal solution to many of the issues they face. The article highlights particularly well the usefulness of a document management program as a solution for cutting back on the need for printed documents in the modern office. I found this quote to be extremely poignant to what GRM can offer businesses here in the United States:

"Document management systems are therefore the key to achieving carbon neutrality by 2012. These systems replace the printing-out, postage and manual filing of documents with electronic processes for document creation, delivery, authorisation, management and storage. By moving to electronic document management systems, organisations reduce paper-use and significantly cut CO2 emissions by eliminating toner cartridges whilst also reducing the need to print, photocopy and transport documents."

Risks Larger Than Ever for Unprotected Companies

A report by English based research firm Butler Group pointed out the many risks of a modern company without a data protection and disaster recovery plan in place. The study points out some very significant points, including that not employing a document management center to protect critical data leaves businesses open to both a total information meltdown in the case of a natural disaster and also increases risk of lawsuit due to lost or poorly handled document management practices in house. If you own or operate a business that currently goes without data protection and a disaster recovery plan, have a look at the options GRM has to offer. You may regret not doing so down the line.
